We will hold a Meeting for Remembrance at The Clearing on the first Sunday of November, November 7, at 11:00 am. This special worship session, sponsored by Care & Counsel and Ministry & Worship, will differ from a typical Meeting for Worship because we expect the messages shared to be memories and stories of Friends who have worshipped with us in the past but are no longer with us.
Call them our ancestors, the people who have come before us or once worshipped here among us. Each has shaped the life of this Meeting, just as we all do by our very presence. As Quakers, we’re called to show up– for ourselves, for each other, for our world. We share our stories of Friends who have died to keep alive the spirit and work of those who have come before us, and perhaps to inspire us as we go forward. Meeting for Remembrance is more than just a chance for old-timers to swap memories; it’s a chance for newcomers to learn more about this community we call Richmond Friends Meeting.
It’s also a great opportunity for us to gather together on a fall day at The Clearing, especially since we will not be holding our usual fall retreat there! Religious education for the children will also take place at The Clearing while we are holding the Meeting for Remembrance. Please join us at The Clearing, 14006 Genito Road, Amelia Court House, VA 23002. Give yourself plenty of time to arrive by 11:00 am. Depending on where you live, the drive could take 40 minutes to an hour. Bring a lawn chair and/or blanket and we’ll sit outside. If it’s chilly we can make a fire in the pavilion. Plan to stay afterwards to socialize! Bring your lunch, and we’ll have cookies and hot apple cider to share. We hope to see you on November 7.
