Tragic news from Karen Kain’s husband ( via Facebook)

To All Karen / Ziggy’s friends and family. This is Ben, Karen’s Australian Husband. I am sorry to have some tragic news to share. I have tried to contact as many people as possible in person over the last 5 hours, so my apologies for those that are getting this news via Facebook. But I wanted to post this so people have the information before there are many other posts. 

As you may or may not know Karen had moved to Portland OR, to help with the care of her Mom. She and I accepted that we had to live in different countries for the past year while I finished medical training and she set up our home in the US. I was due to join her in a few weeks. We had purchased a home across the road from her mom’s facility and Karen took great joy in knowing that she could bring her mom across to visit on a regular basis. 

At approximately 8.30pm last night there was a tragic hit and run accident as Karen and her mom were crossing the road. Her mom is injured but in a stable condition, but Karen took the full force of the impact and we are told was killed instantly. Obviously my heart is shattered and I have no words or headspace to pay fitting tribute to her here and now, She made a huge difference to everyone she crossed paths with, her enormous heart and boundless compassion for others, her intellect and passion and integrity enriched everyone’s lives who were lucky enough to come into the brilliance of her orbit, none more so than me.  

There will of course be a celebration of her life in due course but first I will need to get myself across to the US and I look forward to seeing all those I have met already and meeting others for the first time and sharing your memories of her. In the mean time, please reach out to each other and remember her and share stories.
